With new elementary wing open, Polaris Tech Charter School opens student applications for all grades
Families interested in enrolling children in a career- and college-focused Ridgeland charter school must apply during February’s 29-day open enrollment at Polaris Tech.
Children who will be attending kindergarten through twelfth grade in August may apply online at www.polaristech.org. Family members of already-enrolled Polaris students get first preference in acceptance.
If the number of applications is larger than the number of available seats in any grade level, a lottery will be held this spring to determine who gets accepted for the upcoming school year.
Unlike previous years, this year’s student enrollment is just during the month of February and will close on Thursday, Feb. 29.
“With our brand-new elementary wing and competition gym open now, we have a full-service K-12 campus at Polaris Tech,” said Kim Statler, executive director of the 550-student school. “We take a lot of pride in our family atmosphere, where we all take a role in each child’s academic growth and success.
“Because of that success and our new elementary school, we encourage families to apply sooner rather than wait until later,” Statler said. “The online application is simple, but it’s best to get it submitted right now rather than be rushed at the end of February.”
Polaris Tech is a state-approved charter school serving students mainly from Jasper, Colleton, Hampton and Beaufort counties. It is a free school (no tuition), that focuses on preparing young people for strong progress in school and then successful work and college.
In December, school and community leaders celebrated the formal opening of the new 36,000-square foot elementary facility. Middle and high school students continue to primarily use the first structure, located across the parking lot and originally built in 2017-2018.
“From the perspective of someone who sat around a table dreaming about how we might put together a new approach to education in Jasper County and the Lowcountry, to seeing the first facility open for middle and high school students and now, a full kindergarten through graduation Polaris Tech, it’s just an amazing journey,” said retired Air Force Gen. Lloyd “Fig” Newton, one of the school’s founders and chair of the board of directors.
The Polaris Tech academic emphasis is on building a strong academic foundation in the elementary grades and then helping students explore career areas, starting with: Aerospace, Health Sciences and Business Management.
Polaris Tech has opened student applications for all grades and families can apply online at www.polaristech.org/enroll.
